Marine fish with regularly ossified skeleton. Oval body longitudinally, thin and translucent. On the left side, large, oval eyes, very close together, only separated by a bony septum. Large mouth, with prominent lower jaw. Back color brownish yellow or pinkish gray. It can measure up to 61 cm.
