Large mouth with pointed teeth, extending below the lower eye. The lateral line has a pronounced arch above the pectoral fin, and the caudal fin is crescent shaped. Olivaceous or blackish brown, mottled with paler and irregular spots, and white belly. The female reaches a size of 250 cm, while the male reaches 140 cm.
