West African croaker

Marine species exhibiting a robust and fusiform body, laterally compressed, with a slightly convex dorsal profile and a straighter ventral profile. The head is proportionally large compared to the rest of the body and is equipped with a moderately sized terminal mouth. This mouth contains a row of sharp conical teeth. The eyes are prominent and situated on the dorsal part of the head. The dorsal and anal fins are long and contain sturdy spines, with the dorsal fin particularly notable for its backward extension. The pectoral fins are moderately long and extend laterally from the sides of the body. Regarding its coloration, it commonly displays brownish-gray tones on the dorsal side and silver-white on the ventral side, with some scattered dark marks and spots along the body. This species can reach significant sizes, with adult specimens exceeding 100 centimeters in total length.
