Tub gurnard

Order Perciformes
Family Triglidae

An elongated and laterally compressed fish possessing a large, wide head with a terminal and protrusible mouth. Its eyes are large and situated on the top of the head. It has a dorsal fin divided into two parts, the anterior part composed of long and robust spines, and the posterior part of the dorsal fin formed by soft rays. This dorsal fin is one of the main features that help identify fish of the Triglidae family. Additionally, its pectoral fins are modified and have a wing-like shape, allowing it to walk along the seabed. Its colouration varies but is usually in reddish or orangish tones, with dark spots and stripes scattered across the body. The skin of Chelidonichthys spinosus is covered in small scales and feels rough to the touch.
