Marine fish with regularly ossified skeleton. Body elongated and compressed from the sides. Large, broad head, with mouth tilted up. Two poisonous spines at the anterior end of the superciliary arch. The color of the dorsum is yellowish brown, and the ventral face lighter. Flanks with dark strips. It measures up to 40 cm.
