Marine fish with regularly ossified skeleton. Body of contour more or less oval, very compressed and of great asymmetry. Upper profile of the head slightly concave, making a pointed snout. Relatively large eyes. Mouth with teeth in a single row. The lateral line is perceptible on both flanks. Light gray or brownish with spots. It measures up to 30 cm.
