Carapace spiny, strongly calcified; rostrum spine-like; first legs with pincers (chelipeds); right cheliped generally stronger developed than left cheliped; legs 2, 3 and 4 well developed, fifth reduced. Abdomen asymmetrical. Sternite located between first pair of walking legs without deep, longitudinal medial groove.
