Decapod crustacean with a broad, flattened carapace, serrated edges, and a distinctive granulated texture. The front claws are long and slender, while the rear ones are shorter and sturdier. The body is rounded and compact, with short and broad legs. Its colouration varies from shades of brown to hues of orange and red. It reaches moderate sizes, with specimens typically not exceeding 15 centimetres in width.
