Marine fish with regularly ossified skeleton. Fusiform body, robust, lightly compressed. Relatively small head. Short and blunt muzzle. Terminal mouth, small, bordered with thin lips, whose posterior ends do not reach the level of the anterior border of the eyes. Small eyes. A single pair of nostrils located closer to the end of the snout than to the eyes. Two dorsal fins close to each other. The first of triangular contour and the second one of base much longer, the greater height in the first rays and later it descends and becomes uniform. Flow truncated. Dark blueish gray on the back, clear on the flanks, ventral gray-gray area. Dorsal fins, caudal and pectoral gray dark, ventral and anal white. It reaches 80 cm in length.
