Ray
Cartilaginous fish. Eyes and spiracles on top of head. Broadly expanded pectoral fins forming a rhombic or heart-shaped disc. Tail distinctly demarcated from disc, with 2 small dorsal fins far posterior on tail. Pelvic fins bilobed. Spines are larger toward front and disappear with age on rear parts of tail. Group of spines in front of and around each eye. Adults have 1 middorsal row of many small spines, 1 row of small spines on each side, middorsal row of spines extend forward on disc to area behind eyes. Young have 2 pale crossbars on tail, each outlined by a dark blotch or band. Snout pointed. Colour: Dorsal surface pale brown with numerous obscure dark spots and irregular pale markings. Ventral surface white with few small dusky spots or blotches. Maximum size 61 cm total length.
