Rainbow trout
Euryhaline fish (marine and freshwater) with regularly ossified skeleton. Body of elongated, fusiform shape. Adipose fin present, usually with black border. No nuptial tubers, but minor changes occur in the head, mouth and color of the spawning males. Color blue to olive green on a pink band along the side and silver line below it. Back, sides, head and fins covered with small black spots. The coloration varies with the habitat, size and sexual condition. Residents trend in streams and spawners to be darker with more intense color, while residents of lakes are brighter and more silvery. The absence of hyoid teeth is the most easily distinguishable feature of Oncorhynchus clarki.
