Pullet carpet shell
Bivalve mollusc with an oval and somewhat elongated shell, typically light in colour with darker stripes or spots that may vary in intensity and pattern. The surface of the shell is smooth and shiny, with a slight pearlescent sheen in some areas. The shell valves are connected by a sturdy dorsal hinge. The internal anatomy of this mollusc includes a soft body protected by the valves. The gills, used for respiration and feeding, are visible inside when the valves are open. Additionally, it has a muscular foot that allows it to burrow into the sand or move along the seabed. The length of Callista chione can vary, but it typically ranges from 5 to 10 centimetres, although larger specimens can be found in some populations.
