Marine fish with regularly ossified skeleton. Oval and compressed body. Relatively small head, with concave profile. Medium mouth with 4-6 rows of pointed, small teeth with each jaw. Large eyes. Bluish gray or brownish on dorsum, Silver flanks. It measures up to 51 cm. It weighs up to 3 kg.
