Nothern sea urchin

Order Camarodonta
Family Strongylocentrotidae

It exhibits a distinctive morphology characterized by its spherical body covered in movable spines. It features a pentamerous radial symmetry, with five equal body sections radiating from a central point, which is the mouth. The spines, which can reach several centimeters in length, are movable and arranged in ordered rows on the body surface, providing protection and mobility. The internal skeletal apparatus, known as the test, is composed of fused calcareous plates and forms a rigid structure housing the urchin's internal organs. The mouth is located on the underside of the body and is surrounded by five jaw-like teeth. The ambulacral system, consisting of grooves running along the body surface and equipped with ambulacral tubes, is used for locomotion and food capture. The sea urchin is a herbivorous species that primarily feeds on algae and other organic matter found in its marine environment. Its coloration varies between brown, green, and reddish tones, providing camouflage in its habitat.
