Medium-sized cephalopod with a rounded, muscular body. It has eight long, slender arms, each with two rows of suckers along its length. Its head is relatively small compared to its body and has two large, prominent eyes. The colour varies but is usually in shades of brown or reddish, with patterns of lighter spots or bands. It has an ink sac that it can use to defend against predators, and its skin texture is smooth and slightly rough.
