Marine fish with regularly ossified skeleton. Huge head, very enlarged and crushed, as long as the body and disproportionately wider than it. Wide mouth with prominent lower jaw. Teeth very strong and steely. Eyes in back position. Back brownish, greenish brown or reddish, with dark spots.
