Marine fish with regularly ossified skeleton. Fusiform, elongated and little compressed body. Heavy head with pointed snout. Extremely protactile mouth. Adipose eyelid. 2 separate dorsal fins. Greenish-gray or bluish-gray back, silver flanks and white belly; black spot on the edge of the operculum.
