Marine fish with regularly ossified skeleton. Short head, ranging from 2.4 to 2.9 times the standard length. Small teeth in both lower jaw and premaxillary. Scales all over the body. Oropharyngeal cavity and tongue blackish. Long body. Caudal fin with a whitish band. General blackish coloration, darker on the back. The maximum registered length is 80 cm.
