Deep-sea red shrimp
The body is elongated and laterally compressed, with a head and thorax covered by a nearly smooth carapace that extends on both sides of the cephalothorax. This carapace externally covers the gills, forming the gill chambers. At the anterior end of the carapace, there is a well-developed rostrum. The average total length ranges from 80 to 120 mm, and the coloration is reddish, with dark longitudinal bands parallel to each side of the abdomen. The head and thorax are divided into 5 and 8 metasomes, respectively. The rostrum is stylized, longer than the carapace, and slightly curved upward, presenting a variable number of teeth along its edge, usually 33, with the first 4 or 5 being larger and more spaced. The eyes are dark blue, and the carapace features a single crest at the posterior end of the rostrum. The first pair of pereiopods is slender and equipped with small claws, while the second pair, longer, also has a pair of claws and is characterized by a carpus subdivided into several joints. The abdomen is divided into 6 metasomes.
