Cuttlefish

Order Sepida
Family Sepiidae

Marine cephalopod mollusc with oval mantle and dorsoventrally flattened. It is one of the largest sepia species since it reaches 80 cm of mantle. The mouth is formed by two horny jaws and is placed in the center of the arms. It has sexual dimorphism so that males are larger than females (males reach 80 cm in length and 5 kg in weight and females 50 cm in length and 2 kg in weight) and have black spots on the arms. It has a rounded bulb, thick and bright dark yellow on the ventral side of the distal end, which contrasts with the whitish color of the rest. It has 10 arms of which 2, the tentacles, are retractable and have a length greater than the rest. The short arms have suction cups along their entire length, while the retractile tentacles lack suckers in two-thirds basal, concentrating these in the distal third, called tentacular club.
