Marine bivalve mollusc. Solid shell, oval and with symmetrical valves, with very thin and close concentric lines. Hinge with three teeth. Deep pallial sinus without reaching the center of the valve. Edge of valves is smooth. Very variable color, generally brown or gray, profusely decorated with dark zig-zag lines and white spots; some "albino" individuals with a brown vein; light yellow interior. Up to 4 cm in length.
