Cape Hope squid
Marine cephalopod mollusc with a slender and elongated body. It has eight short arms and two very long retractile tentacles, equipped with suction cups. It has relatively long diamond fins that reach just over half the length of the mantle. Its eyes are covered by a membrane that is part of the skin that covers the head. It has a reddish brown pigment that contains cells that reflect the light in the head and the mantle. When alive, the colour can change from dark red to almost translucent. Its mantle measures up to 40 cm in length.
