Marine fish with regularly ossified skeleton. Elongated and slightly compressed body. Wide mouth with conical teeth. Wavy lateral line. 2 dorsal fins located very close to one another. Bluish back, white ventral face. It can measure up to 90 cm and weigh up to 10 kg.
