Elongated and laterally compressed body, with a colouration ranging from blue to brownish, featuring dark spots on the dorsal side and silver to whitish tones on the ventral side. Its head is proportionally small compared to the body, with a moderately sized terminal mouth. Eyes are of medium size and situated on the upper part of the head. It has long dorsal and anal fins supported by robust spines, while the pectoral fins are moderately long and triangular. The caudal fin is forked and pointed. Additionally, its lower jaw slightly protrudes, and the gill cover lacks bony radiating striae.
