Marine fish with regularly ossified skeleton. Body with dorsal profile quite arched, ascending from the eyes to the origin of the dorsal fin. Large and oval eyes; great spines and crests above the head. Wide mouth. Long pectoral fins. Rounded caudal fin. Brown color, dotted with black spots; three dark transverse bands in the caudal fin. It can measure up to 20 cm.
