Bigfin reef squid

Order Myopsida
Family Loliginidae

Its body is fusiform and elongated, with a well-developed head and a mantle that constitutes most of its body length. The dorsal fin extends along the back of the mantle and serves as the primary propulsion during swimming. Two smaller lateral fins, known as lateral fins, are located on each side of the mantle and contribute to directional control. The tail is relatively short and pointed, aiding in maneuverability and speed. The skin is covered with small bumps and a series of chromatophore cells that allow it to camouflage in its environment by changing color and pattern. The head houses a pair of large and complex eyes, as well as a mouth equipped with powerful tentacles and a horny beak for prey capture. This species displays variable colouration, which may include shades of brown, grey, and blue, with distinctive patterns of spots and bands. The total length of an adult specimen can reach several decimeters, depending on its age and environmental conditions.
