Marine fish with regularly ossified skeleton. Body elongated, thinned towards the back. Dorsal, caudal and anal fins united formed a single fin. Pelvic fins transformed into a bifurcated filament. All fins with soft spokes. Large head and wide mouth, with three upper barbels of decreasing size backwards, and three barbels in the chin, of increasing size backwards. Rosy brown, lighter in belly; fins flanked by black. Up to 75 cm in length.
