Allis shad
Bony fish with an elongated and laterally compressed body, which is covered with silvery scales. It has a pointed head with a prominent upper jaw and large eyes positioned on the top of the head. It possesses a well-developed single dorsal fin, along with pectoral and pelvic fins. It features long, thin, and numerous gill rakers, longer than the gill filaments. Its scales are large and thin, with the presence of abdominal scutes. Dorsally, it exhibits a deep blue colouration, transitioning to greenish brown or golden on the sides and silver on the ventral side. A single dark spot is identified before the gill opening (sometimes absent), with occasionally 1 to 6 more dark spots behind it. The typical size of an adult shad can reach up to around 70 centimetres in length, although this may vary depending on the individual and the region.
