Rosa Chapela
Coordinator of the Department of Fisheries Socioeconomics at the Marine Technology Centre-CETMAR
Rosa Chapela Pérez is Coordinator of the Fisheries Socioeconomics Department at the Centro Tecnológico del Mar-CETMAR since 2002. With a PhD in Law from the University of Santiago de Compostela, she began her career in the legal department of the Fisheries Department of the Xunta de Galicia. From CETMAR, she has led and participated in numerous European projects on fisheries sustainability, competitiveness and value chains, participatory local development, climate change, women in fisheries, etc., collaborating with numerous teams from European countries and from Brazil and South Africa.
Rosa has collaborated with international organisations such as FAO and IUCN. She has contributed to international cooperation projects focused on the participation and training of women in aquaculture in countries such as Vietnam and Senegal, and in twinning projects for the harmonisation of fisheries legislation in Romania and Bulgaria.
Based on her experience in fisheries policies, aquaculture governance and sustainable development, she has coordinated meetings and events with public managers and key players in the European fisheries sector.
Her team is concerned with boosting the socio-economic impact of fisheries and aquaculture, always emphasising the dissemination and communication of the sector’s progress at international level. She collaborates in interesting projects for the European Commission such as EMODNET or the European Observatory of the Blue Economy.
Since 2013, Rosa is a geographic expert and contact for Spain in the European Network FARNET, which supports participatory local development through Local Fisheries Action Groups.
Rosa is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Galician Association of Consumers and Users (UCGAL).
