Dra. Leyre Goti Aralucea

President of the European Association of Fisheries Economists – EAFE

Leyre Goti is a Natural Resources Economist with a Ph.D. in Development Studies from the University of the Basque Country, a Master’s in International Economics from the Berlin School of Economics, and a Degree in Economics (with specialization in Natural Resources and Environmental Economics), by the University of the Basque Country.

His research interests include economic and social issues at the intersection between conservation and exploitation of natural resources, such as the assessment of the economic and social impact of fisheries management measures aimed at conserving biodiversity, participatory governance mechanisms for fisheries in protected areas and the study of economic competitiveness and innovation initiatives for sustainable European fisheries.

She currently focuses on fish processing, coastal fisheries and marine systems, and her research and scientific coordination experience includes numerous research projects at national and European level. She is responsible for the data collection program of the fish processing industry in Germany, regularly participates in the expert working groups of the EU Scientific, Technical and Economic Committee for Fisheries (STECF), of which she is a member, and is co-chair of the ICES Working Group on Marine Systems (WGMARS). She is currently the President of the European Association of Fisheries Economists, EAFE.
