The Spanish Association of Wholesalers, Importers, Exporters and Processors of Fisheries and Aquaculture Products (Conxemar) today presented its new brand image at the Casa de Iberoamérica in Cádiz. The event was attended by prominent authorities, including the European Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans, Costas Kadis; the President of the Regional Government of Andalusia, Juanma Moreno; and the Mayor of Cádiz, Bruno García, among other institutional and sector representatives.
Within this framework, and under the slogan “Conxemar: leadership, identity and future,” the event marks the beginning of a new chapter in the Association’s history, seeking to strengthen its role as a benchmark for frozen seafood products and to reaffirm its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and the defense of the interests of both the sector and consumers.
During his speech, Conxemar’s president, Eloy García, emphasized that the new identity aims to reflect “a modern, open and global organization that combines experience with innovation.” García stressed that the association keeps “intact the values that have made it strong: unity, independence and service to the sector.”
Likewise, Eloy García pointed out that the brand redesign “is a reflection of a cohesive industry that is prepared to continue moving forward toward a sustainable and competitive future,” with sustainability, food sovereignty and the creation of quality employment as its main pillars.
Turnover and Employment: a Strategic Sector
The president of Conxemar also presented an overview of the sector based on projections from the 2025 Report on the Fisheries Products Industry and Trade in Spain, prepared by the Ardán Chair of the Vigo Free Trade Zone.
The study depicts a sector that sustains more than 36,000 direct jobs and generates over €19 billion in turnover. Frozen products are the main engine, accounting for 75% of total turnover, reaching approximately €15 billion.
“We are therefore talking about a strategic activity that combines innovation, technology and sustainability, but which, above all, has demonstrated remarkable resilience in the face of the logistical, energy and geopolitical challenges of recent years,” said Eloy García.
Looking inward at the association, the president detailed that the 241 companies affiliated with Conxemar account for 60% of national employment in the sector and 76% of the total turnover of Spain’s frozen seafood industry, representing “practically 1% of Spanish GDP.”
On this basis, the president highlighted the sector’s growth model, “based on cooperation, professionalism, and a commitment to quality and sustainability.” “A model that proves it is possible to grow while creating jobs, compete through innovation, and move forward without losing the commitment to our origin: the sea and those who depend on it,” he added.
Andalusia, Europe and the Future of the Sector
The choice of Cádiz to launch this new phase, García explained, represents recognition of Andalusia’s role as “Conxemar’s natural port.” The region brings together 30 member companies with a combined turnover of €1.094 billion and more than 2,200 direct jobs, equivalent to three quarters of frozen seafood activity in the region.
Likewise, at a time when the definition of the next Multiannual Financial Framework 2028–2034 is beginning, the president of Conxemar called for a European fisheries policy that “continues to strike a balance between sustainability and competitiveness.” In this regard, he urged that the future financial instrument maintain “stable, specific and sufficient support for the entire fisheries and aquaculture value chain.”
The event concluded with the screening of a video featuring testimonials from member companies and an audiovisual summary of Conxemar’s activities, underscoring the Association’s leadership in the frozen seafood industry and its commitment to cooperation between science, business and public administration.
