Conxemar reiterates the need for an adequate regulatory framework for plant-based products

Representatives of institutions and governmental bodies and professionals from the food sector met this week in Vigo to discuss relevant issues such as safety and transparency in consumer information and the need to define an appropriate regulatory framework for plant-based products.

This took place during the conference ‘Plant based. Perspectives and regulation‘, organised by the Consumers’ Union of Galicia in collaboration with the Xunta de Galicia, Centro Tecnológico del Mar – Fundación CETMAR, ConsumES and Conxemar.

The round table ‘Plant-based innovations: designations and characteristics’ was attended by Luis García, sustainability director of Conxemar, who once again highlighted the need for harmonised regulation throughout Europe to ensure that processed plant-based products meet the same standards of safety and transparency as any other food product.

Conxemar reiterates the need to regulate the labelling and marketing of processed plant-based products that mimic seafood products, as this could be misleading to consumers.
