- The Shared Value Report, available on the association’s website, strengthens its commitment to the transition of the fisheries and aquaculture sector towards a more responsible and competitive model
- The Shared Value Strategic Plan 25-30 includes five axes that seek to generate wealth while addressing social and environmental needs and challenges
Conxemar, the Spanish Association of Wholesalers, Importers, Exporters and Processors of Fishery and Aquaculture Products, has published its Shared Value Report. The document is a milestone in the association’s path towards sustainability and offers a roadmap that is developed through a decalogue and different lines of action.
Within this framework, the Report reflects Conxemar’s commitment and work to align its operations and those of its more than 250 associated companies with the guidelines of the European Green Pact, the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the preservation of human rights.
The publication of this report is a significant step forward for the fisheries and aquaculture sector. Indeed, the document represents a guide that sets clear standards for the transformation towards a more sustainable and resilient economy.
Thus, the implementation of these principles not only contributes to the preservation of the environment, but also improves the competitiveness of member companies and the sector itself, promoting their capacity to adapt to regulatory and market demands.
Conxemar’s Shared Value Report can be consulted on the web, thus facilitating the construction of an open dialogue on sustainability and the challenges faced by the sector, with concrete and measurable actions that, at the same time, represent a competitive advantage.
The Sustainability Decalogue
Conxemar’s commitment is also materialised in a Sustainability Decalogue, which establishes the fundamental guidelines to promote sustainable, efficient and responsible practices in the sector, and which is already being disseminated among Conxemar’s associates for their consideration when implementing strategies and actions.
Among the key points are the commitment to ethics and transparency, guaranteeing traceability and accessibility of information throughout the value chain; regulatory compliance; and technological innovation, promoting the adoption of more efficient transformational technologies.
Likewise, it also advocates for generating a positive environmental impact, with special attention to the protection of marine and terrestrial ecosystems and the adoption of circular economy practices; for social inclusion and employment; and for health and quality of life, promoting the consumption of aquatic products as a key source of nutrition while working on initiatives that encourage a healthier life.
A milestone for the sector
Conxemar reiterates its commitment to the sustainable growth of the sector and its area of influence, already materialised with the approval of the 2023-26 Master Plan which, developed on 4 strategic axes -political, social, association and institutional-, integrates sustainability as a central pillar of the actions.
A commitment that has been consolidated over the last few years with the aim of reinforcing the role of the association as a relevant actor in the transition towards a more responsible model, generating social, economic and environmental value.
Within this framework, Conxemar works actively to support the transition of its associates, the sector and the communities in its area of influence. A goal that is achieved by promoting cultural changes, generating knowledge, creating alliances and promoting these values at national level, in the European Union and in third countries.
All these efforts are reflected, in turn, in various actions that demonstrate the company’s commitment to innovation, wellbeing and sustainability. These include initiatives such as the Fish Nation Foundation and Conxelab, as well as the CardioMar and ColoMar research projects, developed in collaboration with the Vithas Foundation and the Vithas Vigo Hospital.
Likewise, the commitment to sustainability has also been reflected in the International Frozen Seafood Products Exhibition, which each year takes new steps in this direction and which are reflected in specific actions linked to the reduction of the carbon footprint, waste management and reduction of plastics, and the creation of alliances with civil society, among others.
