- The International Exhibition has counted this year with more than 750 stands located in 37,000 square metres, leaving 5,000 square metres of unsatisfied demand unattended
- Its celebration generates 235 million euros and 6,500 jobs in the Vigo area every year, a figure that would increase by 20 million just by meeting this unsatisfied demand
The 25th edition of the Conxemar International Frozen Seafood Products Exhibition has today bid farewell to a historic edition. During the last three days, from 1 October until today, a total of 27,080 visitors from 110 different countries came to the Instituto Ferial de Vigo – IFEVI, 1.15% more than in the 2023 edition.
Likewise, this year the Exhibition has counted with the participation of more than 750 exhibitors from up to 46 different countries, with Dominican Republic, South Africa, Mexico, Indonesia, Namibia, Poland and Slovenia as new exhibitors.
All of them were located in the different stands that covered the maximum available surface area of 37,000 square metres. A space that Conxemar hopes to be able to expand in future editions.
Not in vain, as its president, Eloy García, explained today, ‘we currently have more than 5,000 square metres of unsatisfied demand’.
This demand, he adds, comes only from products from frozen fish exhibitors, and could be greater if other sectors such as the so-called ‘Fifth range’ -which offers the dish already prepared for cooking-, or canned food were to be catered for.
In this context, it should be noted that the International Fair generates 235 million euros and 6,500 jobs each year in the Vigo area, according to data from the report drawn up by the Free Trade Zone and the Ardán Chair of the University of Vigo to measure this impact.
This study, in turn, breaks down the importance of meeting the needs of industry in order to continue growing, given that for every 6,000 square metres of unsatisfied demand, 20 million euros are lost.
A quarter of a century
This year’s edition was a very special one, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the International Trade Exhibition. On this occasion, Conxemar has tried to bring the event closer to the public through different activities which, in some cases, began to be held in the previous months.
This is the case of ConxeFest Fish & Hits, a competition that was born with the vocation of promoting emerging Galician artists and whose winners, the Pontevedra-based duo Melodiam, have been able to perform today at the fairgrounds as the closing event of the activities planned for this edition.
Another of the initiatives launched to celebrate this quarter of a century is ConxeTapas, a competition that brings the full flavour of frozen seafood products to Vigo’s Old Town these days.
From 1 to 20 October, twenty establishments – which can be consulted on the website set up for the occasion – will be offering the best pinchos made with this raw material. To take part, all you have to do is scan the QR code found on the promotional supports and vote for the best tapa, thus entering the draw for an iPhone16.
