Presentation
On
29th November, the Conference "Fish,
Quality and Health" will be held,
organized by Conxemar at the Caixanova
Social Centre in Vigo (Spain). The event
will draw together prestigious national
and international specialists in health
and nutrition, to discuss the benefits
of sea products for the health.
Aware
of the health problems facing modern day
society, mainly arising from new consumer
habits and increasingly sedentary customs,
Conxemar sets out to inform the consumer
society in this conference on the health
benefits of sea products, especially in
the prevention of cardiovascular diseases.
According
to expert opinion, it is not feasible
to apply a policy of healthy nutrition
without including fish in our diet, since
sea products provide the consumer with
a wide range of proteins and a high fat
content with a high nutritional value,
providing countless benefits for the organism.
A number of countries recommend consuming
sea products at least twice per week,
endorsed by prestigious bodies such as
the Spanish Heart Foundation, the American
Academy of Cardiology, the American Heart
Association and the American Dietetic
Association.
Medical
research
The latest medical research points out
that the fatty acids from sea products
has a highly positive effect in preventing
and treating diseases such as cancer,
Alzheimer, diabetes, arthritis, asthma,
migraine, schizophrenia and depression.
In summary, the results of these studies
show that including fish in the diet leads
to a longer, healthier life.
Likewise, it has been demonstrated that
in certain populations, such as the Eskimos,
the Japanese or the inhabitants of certain
islands in the Pacific or the Indian Ocean,
where fish consumption is very high, the
occurrence of cardiovascular diseases
is minimal.
The
lack of repercussion of these studies
that are only known in scientific circles,
calls for a greater involvement of the
administrations to broadcast them since
consumers, on the other hand, receive
confused messages and continue not to
include the essential amounts of fish
in their diet. In order to making this
news known, CONXEMAR is organizing
the conference "Fish, Quality and
Health", on 29th next in Vigo.
The CONXEMAR Association, created in
1981, currently has a total of 276 members
representing Spanish companies as wholesalers,
importers, exporters, retailers, distributors
and processors in the frozen sea product
sector.
