Vigo
its the obligatory place to visit when
you come to Galicia. Specially lots of tourists
that arrived by sea cruises, the biggest and
most important cruises put in at Vigos
Port, so it becomes one of the most visited
ports of the North of Spain.
Before
padding the sea and before the construction
of the fishing port, the sea arrived to these
arcades. It has already mantained the seafaring
taste in its arcades, its small houses with
wooden and ironed balconies, and its taverns.
Small squares, stairs and Cruceiros compose
a suggesting seafaring group.
El
Castro is the mountain where prehistoric population
had established. Now its a public park
that offers large forest areas, with the fortress
on the top where you can enjoy the wonderful
views over the ría and the Fragoso valley.
There is another important viewpoint in Vigo,
that is A Guía mountain, on the top you
can visit the hermitage of Nuestra Señora
de las Nieves, that it was used as a guide and
reference point for the boat skippers. The beautiful
park its rounded is nowadays a residential
area.
The
left seashore of the Vigo's Ría is a
whole of beaches succession: from the Samil
curved beach, getting through the short one
of Coruxo, up to the O Bao beach, with it's
slight and sheer sand, protected by the Toralla
Island. Following, it's the Canido beach and
its residential area, that's the first project
of satellite town.
Without
any doubt the greatest attractive is the Cíes
Islands, an hour of delightful trip by ship
to enjoy the sun and the Atlantic breeze. There
you can relax and have a rest in its heavenly
beaches. These islands are near and far at the
same time, and visitors always feel attracted
by them. They are one of the Galician Nature
Reserve.
But
it is the city that involving the dynamism and
the exceptional scenery of the setting, attracts
most of the tourists. Mostly when going up to
any of the viewpoints mentioned above, we can
gaze at the setting and notice how urban forms
melt into the marine skiline, with the particular
and exceptional mixture probably the
one-and-only of mountains, rías,
beaches, islands and valleys, all involved by
the bright and shining light, typical of this
latitude.
